Ugh, ghouls x.x
Well, I’ve finally finished one but I’m not really very happy with it. The flesh isn’t pallid enough for how I imagine my ghouls living, and there isn’t enough contrast on the model. There’s no place on him that is really dark, but I can’t seem to work anything dark in.. I tried getting a
nice deep black or brown on the ribs, but I couldn’t get it to look right and just ended up going reddish instead and I am not happy with it.
The bones also look like crap. They look too brown and not enough like bone, but further attempts to highlight them are producing a very unsightly streaky appearance. I think I just need to set the model aside until after dinner and see what I can do with it further.. x.x Right now, I think it will be much more pleasant to just sit around and dream about a cute little ratty.
Now if only that damned pot roast would either finish cooking or stop smelling so tempting and out of reach ;-;

Is that a FLASH LINE I spy on that ghouls right shoulder!?!?
In all seriousness, that first pic full of ghoul-ass is leaving me with the impression that they just did not give oyu a lot to work with on this model. I mean, it looks like the face and back have all the detail, while the body and limbs are just kind afer-thoughts or also-rans.
I am thinking a deeper pink for the creases, maybe do a wash with a deep pink, keep re-applying it until you really build up some definition in the model. I think you were right ot use pink in the creases, but any model this light is going to have SFA contrast if you cannot get something darker into the nooks and crannies.
From there, if you are serious about the green, try high lighting some in and see how it looks.
Lemme throw an idea at you. Prime a fresh model. Base coat medium-light Baby-Shit Green (aka Post Digested Pea Green, it’s a vallejo trust me), start dry brushing wih a light violet, high lighting with white with some violet mixed in.
You know, now that you say it, it might just be a flash line. I was running under the impression that it was a scar, since they have about the same amount of definition x.x but in the picture it does look a little longer than the other scars.
It is highlighted with green, btw. I just can’t highlight it any more green without it looking even more washed out than it already does.
I actually had been thinking about doing what you’ve suggested, with the green and violet (as violet is definitely going to be the skin base on my vampires), but the problem is.. green = blue/yellow and violet = blue/red and when you start highlighting them all together, you get brown.
I’m sure eventually I’ll hit on something, but x.x I think what I’m going to have to do is get practically red into the creases and then I’ll need to fade out to a dark (not dark angels dark, but darker than the pallid color I’m in love with) and highlight that up to pallid, rather than blending the red out into the green as I’ve been doing. And then, of course, red up the scars.
