Sisters of Battle

February 1st, 2009 by Missy

test sisterWell, we finally sat down and started doing some painting tonight. The black and red are just blocked in with some base colors at the moment, so ignore those. The only thing even resembling “done” at the moment is the gold. Unfortunately, I think it is looking rather.. rough. And it does NOT photograph well with flash so Dan and I had to spend about forever finding a decent setting to take the picture with sans flash.

Anyway, I’m not sure if this is going to stick or not. I really like the idea of the gold armor with the black cloth and maybe some red accents but.. yeah, don’t know if I can pull it off.

Hmm.. It’s really hard to picture what it’d end up looking like with the detail (rivets, skulls, chain/cross, shoulders, etc) done, but not what I pictured somehow. It may turn out better than you thought it would. What are you thinking for the flamer?

Also, colour me shocked that 40k is getting painted. I thought Dan was pretty much done with it after reading the rules for the new edition.

I’ve decided not to make up on mind about whether or not I like it until it is completely done.

Do you think the “gold” looks like gold at all? I think it looks a little more like gold in person.. but I really can’t make up my mind in the pictures.

For the flamer, I’m thinking NMM silver. The Fleur de Lys and Imperial Eagle will also be silver. I’m not sure if rivets will be silver or gold.. they’ll probably be one of the last things I do.

I am also pondering painting the gloves red as if they were leather, rather than the gold that they currently are. They’re sculpted wrinkly enough that I think they’d look fine leather, and the extra contrast might be good. Any opinion on that?

Uh, it looks like gold, yeah, but it’s really hard to tell whether it’s shining or burnished+wash in the picture. IIRC, Dan and I had Shining Gold Chaos Warriors with BGM trim at one point, which didn’t look bad.

Nothing wrong with red gloves. Blood red + wash? Scab red? The mask looks blood red, but scab somehow feels more leathery (to me, at least). I’ve never seen what blood red + wash looks like, though.

Er well.. it isn’t shining or burnished, actually. It is NMM with an assortment of Vallejo colors.

The mask is going to going to be closer to scab red than blood red. I don’t use Citadel paints, though.

Really? Oi. NMM seems like an awful lot of work. You’ll have to put a picture up when it’s done~
