Lazy..

July 31st, 2009 by Missy

Must.. stop.. being so lazy! I haven’t worked out in a while now, and it is really start to get to me. I’ve definitely put on some weight that needs to go back off, but mostly.. I’m just feeling lazy. I’m not sure what it is, but I just keep eating and eating and eating lately.

4thgenThe kids go back to school on Thursday, and I’m planning to start running again once they start school. We’ll see how that actually goes. I also have plans with my grandma to go to the mall (too hot outside for Grandma) three times a week and walk. I doubt it’ll really be that much exercise for me, but it is better than sitting on my ass all day, and it will certainly be good for Grandma. I need to get back into some weight lifting as well. I was up to 5-6 pullups at one point, yet now I’m back down to one..

Unfortunately, my iPod has bitten the dust. It appears to have sustained some water damage (splashed being near the sink?) and I am not at all happy. It is JUST outside of the warranty period, so I’m pretty much out of luck. I ordered a new one and it arrived today — took me about forever to get my iTunes set back up and organized since it disappeared when Dan fixed my computer. I absolutely hate having to spend the extra money on a new one, though. I’m still sort of hoping that the other one can be fixed somehow, and then I can give it to Anya or something.

Anyway, not much really to say.. just that I’m hoping not to be so lazy. If I were really serious I’d probably start working out right now instead of waiting until the kids start school next week.. but what can I say?

Submerge the iPod in a bowl of dry rice, which’ll draw out any water left in it. With any luck, there’s no corrosion in the circuitry. If it at least turns on, hold rewind and the center button simultaneously at powerup, which’ll put it into diagnostic mode (IIRC, menu+center button puts it into disk mode, if you ever need to know that). The “NTF” entry on the top automatically tests the entire thing.

Hopefully Dan’s work schedule settles down soon so you can actually work out. It’s sort of a pain in the ass to do it yourself (P90X not so much, since it’s easy to just follow the prompts). I say this because Heather wants to be able to run a 5k by the time she turns 30, and she’s got me running with her for some reason, so now I end up running by myself on days she’s not up to it.

The water damage is.. old? At least a month or two. Will the rice thing still do anything? I’d imagine it is already as dry as it is going to get. At this point, it doesn’t turn on at all =/

We went for a run today (as you can see on the sidebar.. it was pathetic.. I let Dan run ahead of me though so at least he got a better workout than I did). I’d like to be able to run a 5k.. that’d be nice. I imagine you and Dan could probably both run 5ks now. I used to be able to run a 5k, sigh. Blah, I feel so pathetic. How is Heather doing with her running?

Are you enjoying running at all? I know that you’ve never been a fan, but I know it can get addicting once you get into it.

I thought I still saw water in the display last time I was down there. Maybe I’m wrong about that, though. Given that it’s relatively sealed, and your house isn’t warm enough to allow a ton of evapotranspiration, it stil may do something. Never hurts to try, at least.

The running is, ah… I’m still not that fond of it. Heather doesn’t want me to run ahead of her, so it’s a slow pace. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but she’s barely able to run a mile, so it gives me some buildup time. We’re not running every day either (she has muscle imbalances in her legs, so her knees hurt afterwards — it doesn’t help that she lands on her heels, and we’re running on asphalt). I’m relatively certain I wouldn’t have a problem running a 5k. Probably not a 10k either. Working out 6 days a week for the last 7 months has made a large difference there.

I hear it can get addicting once you get into it. That remains to be seen.

Guess I’ll give it a shot — you never know!

I imagine you’d be more fond of it if you could run at your own pace. When you’re actually able to run, running slowly is kind of miserable (harder on your knees, boring, etc). I let Dan run ahead if he wants to, but if he doesn’t really want to run ahead then he just runs in big circles around me. Maybe you could try that?

Running at my own pace would probably be more fun. You’re quite correct that running slowly is kind of miserable. It doesn’t feel like a workout, it’s much harder on my legs (not on my knees, actually, since running slower just gives me motivation to work on my form), and I absolutely cannot hit a rhythm, because I’ll end up naturally running much faster than her.

Running in big circles is a worthwhile idea.

Sigh.. I wish you were here. Then you and Dan could run ahead of me together! Just gives me more of a view to enjoy, right? ^_-
