Sigh.. I wish you were here. Then you and Dan could run ahead of me together! Just gives me more of a view to enjoy, right? ^_-

Running at my own pace would probably be more fun. You're quite correct that running slowly is kind of miserable. It doesn't feel like a workout, it's much harder on my legs (not on my knees, actually, since running slower just gives me motivation to work on my form), and I absolutely cannot hit a rhythm, because I'll end up naturally running much faster than her.

Running in big circles is a worthwhile idea.

Guess I'll give it a shot -- you never know!

I imagine you'd be more fond of it if you could run at your own pace. When you're actually able to run, running slowly is kind of miserable (harder on your knees, boring, etc). I let Dan run ahead if he wants to, but if he doesn't really want to run ahead then he just runs in big circles around me. Maybe you could try that?

I thought I still saw water in the display last time I was down there. Maybe I'm wrong about that, though. Given that it's relatively sealed, and your house isn't warm enough to allow a ton of evapotranspiration, it stil may do something. Never hurts to try, at least.

The running is, ah... I'm still not that fond of it. Heather doesn't want me to run ahead of her, so it's a slow pace. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but she's barely able to run a mile, so it gives me some buildup time. We're not running every day either (she has muscle imbalances in her legs, so her knees hurt afterwards -- it doesn't help that she lands on her heels, and we're running on asphalt). I'm relatively certain I wouldn't have a problem running a 5k. Probably not a 10k either. Working out 6 days a week for the last 7 months has made a large difference there.

I hear it can get addicting once you get into it. That remains to be seen.

The water damage is.. old? At least a month or two. Will the rice thing still do anything? I'd imagine it is already as dry as it is going to get. At this point, it doesn't turn on at all =/

We went for a run today (as you can see on the sidebar.. it was pathetic.. I let Dan run ahead of me though so at least he got a better workout than I did). I'd like to be able to run a 5k.. that'd be nice. I imagine you and Dan could probably both run 5ks now. I used to be able to run a 5k, sigh. Blah, I feel so pathetic. How is Heather doing with her running?

Are you enjoying running at all? I know that you've never been a fan, but I know it can get addicting once you get into it.

Submerge the iPod in a bowl of dry rice, which'll draw out any water left in it. With any luck, there's no corrosion in the circuitry. If it at least turns on, hold rewind and the center button simultaneously at powerup, which'll put it into diagnostic mode (IIRC, menu+center button puts it into disk mode, if you ever need to know that). The "NTF" entry on the top automatically tests the entire thing.

Hopefully Dan's work schedule settles down soon so you can actually work out. It's sort of a pain in the ass to do it yourself (P90X not so much, since it's easy to just follow the prompts). I say this because Heather wants to be able to run a 5k by the time she turns 30, and she's got me running with her for some reason, so now I end up running by myself on days she's not up to it.

Where the hell has he lost 10 lbs? His waist looks slightly smaller, but other than that I don't see anywhere it could have come off of (his calves look smaller, but I doubt if there was much fat to ge lost three anyway).

It's really hard to tell with the lighting differences, but your arms/wait look trimmer, at least, so the weight isn't everything.

Is one of his arms 1" bigger than the other one?

The girl on the kenpo video doesn't bother me nearly as much as the girl on the Chest/Back video, and I find freakish dancer dude a little disturbing.

I don't think the results will "click" with her, no. Beyond her inability to just push through it (she has not done Chest & Back because she has class on Tuesday nights, and isn't willing to do it alone, plus her finding Yoga too boring to tolerate), she truly believes that it's just "not possible" for some people to lose weight. Her mother, for example, has been "dieting" for years, but never actually exercising.

I can't figure out what her "diet" consists of, but I am aware of the fact that she's unwilling to buckle down and eat limited portions of relatively boring, healthy food (poultry, fish, leafy/fibrous vegetables). She prefers to make caramel rolls instead.

Heather watches this and figures that attempts at "healthy" are good enough. Beyond going out (which I do, and I don't always get the healthy thing on the menu), I do my damnedest to eat things which are good for me at home. I felt like shit yesterday, so I took a nap. When I woke up, Heather had gotten dinner for herself. I mean, Jimmy John's is relatively healthy, as is Chipotle (depending on what she ordered).

It was Papa John's. Canadian Bacon + Hot Peppers. Their website doesn't have exacting nutritional information (neither Canadian bacon nor hot peppers are present), but even plain cheese has 290 calories per slice, 38 carbs, 730mg of sodium, etc.

Her response was that it had "whole wheat" crust, as if it's somehow redeeming. As near as I can tell from their website, that saves 20mg of sodium, 1g of carbs, and it probably adds a tiny bit of protein (and bumps the glycemic index down a negligible amount). She ate half of it (4 slices).

Yes, there's something to indulging sometimes, and I'm sure I will this weekend (given that we'll be out of town the whole time), but "whole wheat" crust does not magically turn a large pizza into a healthy dinner. YMMV.

Hence, I don't think she'll see much of an effect. Plus, she's irritated when I opt to make/eat something comparatively healthy if it's not what she's "craving" (and she's "craving" something different almost every day).
